The Holiday season can be hard for anyone. Pre-Covid it was a time filled with gatherings every weekend from Thanksgiving until the end of the year, an endless supply of baked goods, a new outfit for each occasion(or if you’re me, the same outfit) and a dwindling social battery. This year it may be a little different. I’ve found people to be more disconnected than ever before. Here are some tips for when you are in need of some serious holiday, self care.

Recognize it
Recognize that you need to recharge those social batteries. Are you feeling like you need a break from all of the commotion? Do you reallyyyy not want to go to Jane’s Christmas party tomorrow? If you answered yes or feel like you are too tired, please don’t push yourself! Use the time that you would be out, at home to recoup and recharge.
Self Care
Participate in some of your favorite self care activities. That could be to go on a read, bake, draw, play the saxophone, paint your nails, drive to the beach and nestle your toes beneath the sand, go for a hike and appreciate all of the trees around you.
Light a Candle
I love to light a candle. I have a few and depending on my mood, I can change what I light.
Since candles have caused people serious injury or death (I will have to tell you about my hair catching on fire in a later blog post). Please be cautious and keep and eye out for the open flame. Don’t ever leave it unattended. Thanks for coming to my Safety (Ted) Talk!
Anyways, one of my favorites this season is coconut campfire. I received it as a gift and it was originally purchased from Target.
Turn On Your Diffuser
Turn on your oil diffuser and journal. You will become ‘that girl’, if only for a few moments! It will feel calming hopefully, resulting in some clarity.
Give Something
You can share your time, skill or passion with someone else. You can volunteer, call your grandparents or donate a book to kids nearby.
Be Still
Lastly, if giving, baking, working out, creating or calling a loved one is too much. Then try to take some time to be still with meditating or yoga. When I’m overwhelmed I think about things that calm me, the ocean waves nearing the shore or a bee flying from flower to flower.
In short, try to make time for holiday self care. If you don’t know what you enjoy then, try something new! In the long run, it will make this crazy time of year a little more balanced. You got this!
