Short days, cold nights and Christmas music blasting in every department store. Its busy, the stakes for buying the perfect gift are higher than ever. A mix of an increased amount of stress and spending time with your loved ones is a weird combination to say the least. Anyways, the most wonderful day of year will be upon us in no time which means 2021 is coming to a close. Soon after, a new year filled with hope, aspirations, intentions, opportunities and remarkable experiences will present itself. A few years ago I stopped setting New Years Resolutions and at this very moment I’m setting my 2022 Intentions.
What Are New Years Intentions?
Intentions are things that you plan on doing, similar to resolutions, but different in one key way. Intentions are specific and easily adjusted. The cool parts about intentions are that they pair perfectly with affirmations and action plans.
An example of a New Years intention is, “I intend to broaden my vocabulary by reading one book a month.”
How to Create Intentions
You need to become introspective, dig a little deeper and reflect. Analyze yourself from the past 12 months, what are some wins that you can celebrate and what are some things that you would like to work on?
Would you like to eat healthier, invest more money, respond to stress in a different way, do more yoga, be present and mindful, show people that kindness still exists, drink more water, consume less alcohol, practice conscious consumerism?
Whatever goal you would like to work towards, write that down. For example, I will use eating healthier as my opportunity for growth.
An Intention: I intend to add one serving of vegetables or fruit with each meal every day.
I framed it in a positive way, a way that makes me want to achieve it. My brain likes it better when I frame things in an upbeat manner, thinking of ways to add good things instead of take bad things out of my life. It is easily attainable and I can easily hold myself accountable for it. Obviously everyone’s brain works a little different, so tailor it to you.
Comment Your Intentions Down Below!
I will respond to all of my comments on this post! Let’s chat!
What Happens If I Fail?
We are all human, not perfect robots. We make mistakes and it can feel so defeating to work towards something and not have it work out. I’m here to tell you that it is okay to stumble. You will never be perfect so please give yourself some grace, a hug and know that life happens and you can’t control what happens to you, just how to you respond to it. So lift yourself back up and try again. Also, don’t be afraid to change your intentions, change is inevitable. You Got This!!
Accountability
Accountability is so important. Not just for your intentions, but for all aspects of your life. Sometimes, someone calling you out when you are slacking is just the kick in the butt that you need to fix your problems. I find it best when I have someone to discuss things with. So this year I will have an accountability partner. We will discuss our successes and our opportunities. We will gather for a time of judgement free discussion and use it to learn, encourage and lean on one another.
2022 Intentions
Your 2022 intentions are a great way to set your year off to a great start! Do you want to be more mentally available to your family and less focused on work outside of work? Do you want to be the most active version of yourself? Do you want to be a little softer, gentler or kinder than you were yesterday? Do you want to be more independent?
Just know that you can accomplish anything that you set your mind to! -thanks mom for that encouragement everyday-
Stay Kind, Eat Well, Get Inspired,
